Pious Paladin is the next evolution in Traipse OpenRPG. This step in development is a major step bringing in new features and doing away with older features that made no sense or considered redundant. Pious Paladin allows Traipse to grow as a virtual game table, and the changes made allow it to stay a constant in the free software market.

Intelligent Map

The new map is awesome. The map now reacts to drag and drop. In fact, there is no other way to add a miniature to the map. Pious Paladin removes all the layer tabs at the bottom of the map and places them inside an easy to use tool box. The Map Tool Box can easily appear or reappear at the touch of a button so it will never clutter your view.

Each and every map object is an object class to itself. Developers and non developers alike will really appreciate this change. Without being too technical ... each map object is designed to allow it freedom to interact differently from all other objects.

Chat & Interact

The chat in Pious is taking on a new look and feel almost entirely. The chat in Pious uses WebKit, the same libraries that Safari and Chrome use. The change adds a new dimension to the chat box ... and in-house browser. With the in-house browser answers to rules questions come swiftly by simply dropping a link to an online rules resource and every member of the chat can see the rule in their Browser tab

.

The font buttons have also been removed in favor of a more IRC style way of changing fonts. Other advancements taking place to fully integrate common chat commands, allowing chat to look less like an after thought and more like fluid dialogue between characters.

The Game Tree

Not one but three game trees for your gaming needs.

Server, GUI and Beyond

Modifiable server bot, server based die roller, die roller fact checker ... the server is not getting skimped over in this change. The new graphic user interface for the server is streamlined, removing many of the unimplemented features and implementing them in a minimal user interface. Server admins can ping players, modify the settings of rooms, add new rooms and remove old rooms, even make rooms persistant ... all from the gui.

The next generation server communicates more with the clients using less. This server can notify clients of requests before they take place, preventing users from sending large files without permission. And with the server bot, that clients can interact with through chat ... this server knows no bounderies.

Streamlined UI

The new User Interface removes many of the redundencies and replaces the menu with a touch friendly tool bar. The new settings menu reduces the possibility a user who just wants to play and not code enters in a string that will crash the program. The new docking system still allows users to move their docks around, but it also allows for new options including tabbed docking.

PyQt & Code Structure

Pious Paladin replaces wxPython with PyQt. This is a major change which brings in a large set of libraries from Qt. The decision was made to go with Qt because of all that Qt offers, from video and audio to specific styling of the User Interface. PyQt is a one stop installation that will keep Traipse OpenRPG up to date with current technology, including multi touch.

The new code structure is designed to allow development to advance at a much faster pace. It also allows developers to replace PyQt with a different set of libraries without a huge headache when developing.
